DALLAS - The American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) announces the 2010 schedule for both its traditional Beginning Fire Sprinkler System Planning School as well as its new System Layout School for Residential One- & Two-Family Dwellings.
 
Four 2010 Beginning Fire Sprinkler System Planning Schools have been scheduled for February 22 - March 5, April 19-30, July 12-23, and October 11-22; in addition, three sessions of AFSA's new System Layout School for Residential One- & Two-Family Dwellings will be held March 22-26, June 21-25, and August 23-27, 2010.

Convenient, Economical Fire Sprinkler Education for AHJs

 

DALLAS - 9/2/2009 - The Center for Life Safety Education (CLSE) has launched its new two-part Plan Review and Acceptance of Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems program online at www.clse.org

The informative, low-cost seminar series, presented by Kenneth Wagoner of Parsley Consulting, Escondido, Calif., will provide convenient, low-cost training and valuable experience to people and organizations reviewing plans and verifying compliance of automatic fire sprinklers in one- and two-family homes designed in accordance with NFPA 13D.

The first session, Fire Sprinklers 501 - Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems for One- and Two-Family Dwellings: Part 1 - Design and Installation Concepts, will effectively illustrate the concepts and requirements for residential sprinkler systems installation and how it applies to planning and plan review. This one-hour-and-40-minute session describes: the history of NFPA 13D, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes, and how it differs from NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, and NFPA 13R, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Residential Occupancies up to and Including Four Stories in Height; exceptions allowed by NFPA 13D in certain circumstances; water supply requirements and how they are determined and evaluated; residential sprinkler spacing and location; residential sprinkler coverage areas, temperature ratings, and obstructions to discharge; applicable pipe and fittings; multipurpose and stand-alone piping systems; and concepts and considerations used in residential system hydraulic calculations.

This 90-minute webinar will be presented for free to all AFSA members, as part of the AFSA Economic Relief program introduced August 1.

Presented by George D. Bogris, a partner at the litigation-only law firm Whitney & Bogris, LLP, this Web-based seminar, or "webinar," will address the importance and effectiveness of contracts and the hazards of relying strictly on proposals and verbal agreements.  With respect to written agreements, Bogris will address scheduling; owner controlled insurance programs; limitations of liability; indemnification; subrogation issues; exclusions and other issues typically faced by the fire sprinkler contractor in the areas of original installation, service, repair work and inspections. Bogris will also address NFPA 25 inspection pitfalls faced by the inspector.

News: System Layout School for Residential One- & Two-Family Dwellings

This five-day class will provide basic training in the layout and calculation of a residential fire sprinkler system. The class will discuss the stand alone, multi-purpose, and the flow-through system types. The topics covered during the class will be: how to determine water supply, material selection, the requirements of NFPA 13D and the IRC. The course will include fire sprinkler system layout and hydraulic calculation exercises.

This class is geared towards those with limited experience who need assistance with design & those wanting to refresh their experience. Upon completion of this class, the student should understand the basics of residential layout and how to apply NFPA 13D and P2904 of IRC.
